Dr. Pawan Goenka - President, Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive Sector
An internationally recognized scientist and manager, Dr. Pawan Goenka has led Mahindra’s Automotive Sector to new heights of innovation and growth.
Dr. Goenka joined Mahindra as general manager of research & development in 1993 after a successful 14-year career with General Motors. Under his leadership, Mahindra embarked on an aggressive program of new product development.
In quick succession, Mahindra launched an array of new vehicles, including the Scorpio SUV, Pik-Up, Marshal, Armada 98, Bolero and Loadking.
The world-class Scorpio SUV solidified Dr. Goenka’s reputation, while earning numerous awards, including the prestigious “Car of the Year,” award and becoming the subject of a Harvard Business School case study on its development.
Dr. Goenka also played a key role in creating Mahindra’s joint ventures with Renault and International Truck, thereby strengthening Mahindra’s growing leadership in the worldwide auto industry.
After serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Mahindra’s Automotive Sector, Dr. Goenka was named president in 2005.
Graduating as a mechanical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, Dr. Goenka earned a Ph.D. at Cornell University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
